Street Art Upskilling Workshop

Applications are due Friday 31st January, 12pm

Who is it for?

  • You are a visual artist who is interested in street art but doesn’t know where to start, or you are just getting started with street art but are looking for further guidance.

  • You are an artist who has not previously painted a junction box or is not a recognised muralist.

  • You are available on Wednesday 12th February, 11 am - 3:30 pm, to attend the workshop

  • You agree to design and deliver a junction box before the end of March 2025.

What is it?

A day-long, paid workshop that will cover topics such as an overview of best practices, the current state of affairs in the local street art scene, and tools and tips to adapt your work to a large(r) scale setting. Participants will receive a bursary of £75 and lunch for attending the workshop.

This workshop is intended to broaden the pool of artists who can paint a junction box. After the workshop, we will support the participants in developing and delivering a junction box as a part of the Belfast Canvas project with Belfast City Council. Participants will receive a further fee of £250 (+£25 materials fee) for delivering the junction box.

What to expect?

We have some ideas for what will happen on the day; however, we would like to hear more from you about what you want to learn. Make sure to let us know in the application form below.

A note about the evaluation process

In the event of receiving more applications than available places, selection will be made based on:

  • Appropriateness of work/style for Belfast Canvas

  • Bringing something new to the scheme

  • Ability to work professionally in the public realm

  • A sense that this training will improve the artist's career, not just allow them to paint one Junction Box.
