The old School of Music on Donegall Pass has lain derelict for around 10 years. Originally a National School, designed by R.S. Wilshere in the 1930s, it has seen generations of musicians and learners pass through its doors.
The owners of the site, Fitzroy Presbyterian Church, came to us seeking an innovative and achievable approach to creating a new future for this incredible building, one that would support the core values of the church and respond to the needs of people living and working on Donegall Pass.
Based on the model of The Vault, we presented a path for finding that future – firstly by making the building visible again to the public, then animating it inside utilising the arts, and lastly by inviting local people in to that new creative community to develop an accessible, sustainable, long term solution.
The church responded enthusiastically to our concept and now we’re working in partnership to bring them into reality. Watch this space!
