Belfast Stories

CLIENT - BELFAST CITY COUNCIL

Sometimes we are consultants. Sometimes we consult.

We were delighted to have won the BCC tender in collaboration with Thrive for a creative consultation for the Belfast Stories project. Alongside the traditional public consultation, which would engage the usual suspects, we got the opportunity to try a more creative approach.

We were trying to find the questions that would open up conversations to help the people of Belfast share their own stories. We wanted to engage with ordinary people who don’t normally engage in consultation processes.

So we asked questions.

What is the most Belfast thing you have ever seen or heard?

If Belfast was a dog… what kind of dog would it be?

Why are you (still) here?

We asked questions in taxis and pubs and chip shops.
We asked bin-men waiting to start their shift at 6 am.
And business-women on long liquid lunches.
We asked questions while floating up the Lagan and foraging in Forests.

The recorded conversations, transcribed, became data.
We analysed this.
We measured this against the Councils Story Collection Framework
We reported our findings and found we had our own stories to tell.
